With a grid-connected system, the solar panels generate electricity, which is immediately used by your home. If you are not generating enough electricity to power your home, additional electricity is taken from the main power grid. If your panels are generating too much electricity, the surplus is sent back into the grid, for which you will receive a reimbursement from your electricity supplier.
Optionally, surplus electricity can also be stored inside a battery for use at times with little or no sunlight.
