How does a grid-connected PV system work?

During the day the solar panels generate DC electricity. An inverter converts this DC electricity into AC electricity, which we use in our homes. Your house will immediately use electricity to power your appliances and systems. When the panels are not generating enough electricity, additional electricity will be taken from the main power grid. If the panels are generating more electricity then your home needs, the surplus electricity will flow back into the main power grid. Your electricity supplier will compensate your for this returned electricity. Optionally, surplus electricity can also be store inside a battery, so it can be used at times with little or no sunlight.

The Best Installation

Our systems are installed by our FEMPA certified installers, with hundreds of systems of experience in all types of homes and on all types of roofs and surfaces.

The Best Support

All our solar panels come with the registration of the system, the legalization of the grid injection, the change of energy supplier and the cancellation of the old energy supplier.

You can only choose your solar partner once!

Choose a company with real experience in Spain that properly knows the market, the Spanish way of building, Spanish houses, Spanish roof types and Spanish bureaucracy. We also have lot's of experience with other systems that can be interesting in combination with solar photovoltaic panels, like air to water heat pumps, air conditioning and swimming pool heating systems.

Always the best deal!

Our energy supplier change-service finds out which electricity supplier can offer you the lowest tariffs, the lowest fixed costs and the highest reimbursements for injected electricity and transfers you by doing the communication and paperwork. This service is optional and comes included with all of our grid-connected PV systems for free.

Would you like to receive an obligation free quotation and energy report?

Send us your electricity bill and we will send you a quotation and energy report based on your consumption, contracted potency, available space and situation (inclination/orientation).
  • 1
    Inquiry

Send us your electricity bill so that we will have information about your house, electricity connection and average consumption.

  • 2
    Quotation

Using our software we design a system based on your average consumption, contracted potency, available space and situation (inclination/orientation). We then send you a quotation and energy report with an overview of the system.

  • 3
    Site Visit

Before installation we will visit you and observe the situation. The price we give before we visit is always the final price, with no additional costs later on (except special requests and the removal of old systems).

  • 4
    Installation

The installation by our FEMPA certified installers and electricians can almost always be done within 14 days. After installation, the system is fully registered and legalised.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about solar panels in Spain

General

Can I expand the system with more panels later on?

In most cases you can extend the system with 1-3 panels. If you are thinking of adding more then 3 panels in the future, we would advise a stronger inverter. This is important when you are thinking about buying a heat pump, pool heating systems, more air conditioners or an electric vehicle.

Can I use or add battery storage?

Electricity that you don’t use can be stored inside a battery in stead of injecting it into the main power grid. This can be done during the installation or later on.

What if there is shade on the panels?

Shade can negatively affect production. Every panel that can potentially have shade on them should be outfitted with an optimiser, so that the panel(s) that have shade on them cannot negatively influence the panels in full sunlight.

What happens if the main power grid fails?

A grid-connected system cannot supply your home with electricity when the main power grid fails, unless a UPS system or inverter with UPS function is used.

How long is the payback period?

A system that is based on your consumption should be earned back in 5-7 years.

Which solar panels do you use?

We only use premium, tier 1 solar PV panels by Jinko Solar, JA Solar and Sunpower. All our panels are monocrystalline, HC (half-cut) PERC panels with an efficiency of 20% or higher and a warranty of 12-25 years.

Which inverters do you use?

For grid-connected systems we mostly work with hybrid, battery expendable inverters by Huawei and Fronius. We only use inverters that have been certified in Spain and all inverters come with a 10 year warranty.

Does the system need maintenance?

No, the system does not require maintenance.

Do the panels have to be cleaned?

Cleaning the panels will increase the production. If you would like to use our solar panels cleaning service, please contact us.

Can the panels get too hot?

The panels can get hot in summer, but not too hot. The loses due to heat are relatively small and are always calculated in the energy report that you receive with your quotation.

Installation

How are the panels installed on the roofs?

With a diamond drill we drill a hole through the roof tile and the “bardo” (red stones used in roofing suits in Spain). Here we insert a threaded end and then the hole is sealed with a special waterproof glue so that there is no chance of leakage. Rails are mounted on the threaded end on which the panels are placed. The materials we use for this are by Würth.

How are the panels installed on flat surfaces?

For flat surfaces we mostly use ecstatically pleasing prefab concrete foundations with an inclination of 5, 10, 15 or 30 degrees. The foundations are tested with winds up to 150 km/h.

Where do you install?

We install in all towns and villages in-between Denia and Villajoyosa.

What languages do the installers speak?

Our installation team speaks English, Dutch, Spanish and German.

Who installs the systems?

Our own team of FEMPA certified installers and electricians with hundreds of systems of experience on all home and roof types. From modern newly built villa’s to hundreds of year old finca’s

What about broken roof tiles?

All the roofs tiles that break during installation, are replaced by us.

What is the delivery time for installation?

Within 14 days.

How long does the installation take?

Installation usually takes one day (up to 12 panels). After installation the system is up and running and the day after installation we come by for the paperwork, to connect the inverter to your router and to explain the system and app.

Do the systems have an app?

Yes, all systems come with a smartphone/tablet/browser app where you can view the (live) production of the panels, the (live) consumption of your home, the electricity your are returning to the main power grid and the electricity your are taking from the main power grid.

How are the cables concealed?

All cables neatly concealed inside the walls or in cable ducts.

Paperwork

Are solar panels now legal in Spain?

Yes. Where you previously had to pay a tax on the returned energy (untill April 2019 – Impuesto del sol) you will now receive a compensation for the returned energy (real decree 244/2019).

What are the reimbursements?

You will receive a compensation of approx. 5 cents (excl. IVA) per kWh that is returned. The returned energy is stated on your monthly energy bill. The value of this energy is deducted from the energy you still have to pay. You continue to pay the fixed part of the bill (electricity connection and taxes) and the number of kWhs may not be negative.

What about the paperwork?

To receive reimbursements for returned energy, the solar panel system must be registered and the grid injection must be legalised at the Ministry of Industry. When this is done, we receive a certificate, with which we can go to the energy supplier to apply for the reimbursements. These administrative activities come included with our systems. We do not register and legalise third party systems.

What is the switch service?

We do the paperwork and communication in order to transfer you to a different energy supplier, in order to receive much lower tariffs for electricity, lower fixed costs and reimbursements for injected solar electricity you don’t use yourself. This service is optional and free of charge for our clients.

Do you lease, finance or rent systems?

No, at this moment we do not.

What is the maximum system size?

In terms of solar panels we don’t have a limit. In terms of the inverter size we can go up to 10kW. If you would like an inverter stronger then 10kW, different rules will apply in comparison to systems below 10 kW and a project will have to be written by a third party. This will bring additional costs. Please contact us for systems with an inverter larger then 10kW.
